Jade Snuff Bottle

Although I have settled into collecting Middle Period bottles, also do want at least one example of a few different types of gemstone type bottles as well.

As I look at potential stone bottles, the couple of features that are important to me are the size, and that they are carved in a "traditional" shape. Not interested in fancy carvings, or even spending high dollar for them. As a matter a fact, the few I have collected so far have cost virtually nothing.

Gotta love it when going on "the hunt' pays off !

This one like the many other bottles collected, were aquired by simply being at the right place, at the right time. Although in the case of this bottle, absolutely no body even bid on it !

The auction listing did not include a pic showing a top view. Not only is this a nice grade of Jade, but when I saw the shape of the neck and opening area, it suggested that it could well be old style carving.

Sure enough, when it arrived.., I was pleasantly surprised to see it looked as I had hoped. Nice wide carved opening, and well hollowed.

That, combined with it being yet another bottle showing the "China" etched on the bottom, convinced me that this one, like the agate bottle is at least a 100 year old bottle.

Just found a few old rough and tumbled corks that are presently on a few Civil War era medicine bottles. After they arrive, will share a pic of what this looks like with a nice old cork stopper added.

An outstanding Jade example to have in my collection !
