This is just my little online hole in the wall snuff bottle collecting journal..

This is my second go around with collecting these little gems.

Started collecting again about March of 2011.Seem to go through the same trials and tribulations as I did the first time I collected. Found myself buying bottles that soon lost their appeal. Now, several months later, have sold off most all of those first bottles. Have settled into collecting Middle Period inside painted bottles. Although I do have a few gemstone type bottles.

When I started to collect again, there was one important thing missing.. That was the ability to share with and learn from other collectors. Searched the internet and found nothing specific to the Chinese type snuff bottles. As a result, created a fun and informative forum for other collectors like myself to share our bottle collecting experiences. It is called the
Snuff Bottle Discussion Forum. If you are a collector, hope you will stop by and join in the fun !

Snuff Bottle by Chen Zhongsan ( Chen Chung San )

Inside Painted Chinese Snuff Bottle by Chen Zhongsan ( Chen Chung San )

Chen Zhongsan was an excellent Middle Period artist.. Little has been documented about him.
We do know he had ties to, associated with, and influenced by the Yeh family Studio. As can be easily seen by this "Strange Stories From A Chinese Studio" scene on the reverse side of this bottle.. Very popular scene amongst the Yeh Zhongsan family studio..
Front side:

Can be read"(孟狄) Meng di or (盈狄) Ying di, and Signed Chen Zhongsan. Estimate the date between 1890 and 1920.
I am told this is likely a warrior/battle scene from the Warring States period (Zhanguo or Chan-Kuo) refers to the era of about 475 BCE to 221 BCE.
Reverse side script reads:

"Huang ying(黄英)"
The young gentleman is Ma zicai (马子才), and the lady in the room is Huang ying(黄英), they all from the book" Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio"

Bottle is 3" tall

Special thanks to Steven and Pat for the above info !
